News From Oceana Park

September 2019

Wow! Such a long time between news.
So what has been going on at Oceana Park in the last 11 months.....well plenty.
We got a few wonderful and desperately needed thunderstorms during November 2018 which greened things up on the farm and made our life a little easier for a small amount of time.
On Christmas Day morning we had to pull our dear filly Oceana Park Savannah out of the fence.  After expecting to have to put her into an eternal sleep we were incredibly happy that our amazing vet, was optimistic that although Savvy had severed her extensor tendon and damaged her flexor tendon and cannon bone we had a big chance to get her healed to the point of being paddock sound.  Fast forward to August and after six and a half months of intense treatment and rehab, our precious filly is now back out in the paddock, scar free, sound and thoroughly enjoying her long awaited freedom.  Not only is she paddock sound, she healed so well that she will be able to have a saddle career.
Who would have thought that scar tissue could develop, knit itself to the bone and then eventually form a makeshift tendon...nature is an amazing thing!
April 2019 looked pretty bleak here, the paddocks were bare and the top soil was blowing away in the wind. The month of May then gave us 75ml of rain, and although June was fairly dry, July and August gave us some regular wet stuff and

October 2018

Well it's still incredibly dry out here, We got 3mls from the edge of a thunderstorm during the last week which put a little bit of green into the paddocks which is a welcome sight.  Usually this time of year we have knee high grass and are busy managing ponies for the prevention of founder, this year we are on the opposite side of the coin and feeding out.  Everything is well rounded and we are planning on keeping them that way.
We just bought another truckload of beautiful heavy lucerne bales.  More rounds coming soon and our usual order of pasture hay sometime in late November.
Not much news, everything seems to be taken up managing the big dry however I have still been out with the camera and thought I would share a couple of pics taken over the last few weeks.

We had a not overly welcome visitor (that time of year) in late October.  This beautiful and very healthy Tiger-snake decided that the shed was a good place to take up residence.  Luckily one of our little English Staffies let me know it was hanging around, so with some help from Chantelle, I was able to catch and release about 3km away.

September 2018

Some news for our humble little stud-farm.

The Drought: So far this year we are yet to make it to 200ml of rainfall, in almost 25 years we have never had a year so dry.
We spent up big on hay to fill our shed during winter when we realised that with the drought in NSW , QLD and East Gippsland  wasn't looking to break anytime soon.  Lucky we did, as hay is in scarce supply, and due to this the price has trebled!
Fortunately our ponies all resemble land-whales so plenty in reserve.

Oceana Park Alyssum is growing well.  Baby Alice (as she is affectionately known) has cemented herself into our hearts.  We love this precious filly and her wonderful nature.

Poesie de Khai of Khem has been weaned and we very much heard the gigantic sigh of relief from his beautiful dam Nattai Early Morn.  Khai will be gelded in the coming months and be available for sale.  He is a lovely boy, Chestnut, socks, Blaze and a super blonde mane and tail.

Oceana Park Jager and Leonidas were gelded on the 26th of September.  What super-stars they were.  Our awesome vet came out with a veterinary student in tow and had the job done easily and quickly without any trouble.  Look out for these wonderful boys who will be for sale in the future as serious saddle prospects.

Finally, no mares have been bred for next season, too dry and too many ponies out there needing homes.  We have plenty of super saddle geldings to educate and keep us busy.

April 2018

Sadly on April  8th our precious and much loved stallion of many years was laid to rest.
From the moment Glynyarra Beacon came into our world he wove his spell around our hearts.
What a grand life he lived, into his 29th year.
We will miss this boy more than words could ever express.
Sleep well King Beacon. <3

Welcoming our two newest arrivals.
Nattai Early Morn and her young colt at foot
Poesie de Khai of Khem (by Barnhill Faroah).
We are incredibly excited to have finally added a 'Nattai' bred mare to our stud.
Nattai Early Morn, or Bonny as she is affectionately known is a 3/4 sibling to the highly successful Nattai Dark Lady and a half sister to Dallu Studs Nattai Pedr (same dam).

We are very excited by what these two will add to our stud.
New photos will be taken soon.

January 2018

We have a long admired mare arriving soon, along with her lovely colt at foot.
'Bonny', combines some wonderful, well established bloodlines and her colt also.
We are incredibly excited about this opportunity and cannot wait to introduce them both  to you.

We have been incredibly busy here converting our unused shearing shed into a very handy stable.
There has been a lot of blood, bruises, sweat and tears but it is finally finished after four weeks of solid work.

We made the trip to Tatura in early December with our Welsh C Gelding.  Running Waters Taboo was a complete gentleman for the weekend and came away with Reserve Champion Senior Section C Gelding under UK Judge Claire Willis-Burton.
We are incredibly proud of our Buzz
